Diary from the Asia tour: notes from a chaotic week

Behind the scenes with the squad during their tour stops.

The Asia tour is over, and the squad is back on European soil with two wins, a draw and a notebook full of stories.

This is a diary, not a tactical breakdown. Days started with breakfast at 6am to chase the time zone. Training was held under floodlights in three different countries. Messi signed everything that moved, and somehow still found the energy to score in the final friendly.

There were moments of comedy — De Paul lost a bet about the local cuisine and ate something he probably regrets. There were moments of seriousness — Scaloni held a 45-minute closed-door meeting after the second session in Tokyo, and the team came out sharper. And there were moments of intimacy: an open training session where 30,000 children watched in awed silence.

The Asia tour was about money, about exposure, about preparation. It was also about the bond — and from where we sat, the bond is stronger than ever.
